“³First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following after their own evil desires. ⁴They will say, ‘Where is this “coming” he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.’ ⁵But they deliberately forget [be stupid on purpose] that long ago by God’s word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by water. ⁶By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. ⁷By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.” (2 Peter 3:3-7 NIV)

In 2004, the Field Museum in Chicago closed down one of its most popular permanent exhibits for a major remodeling project. The new exhibit is now open after two years of work. The project involved reworking the museum’s extensive dinosaur exhibit into one that is more in line with politically correct evolutionary thought. The title of this new exhibit is “The Evolving Planet”.

A few weeks ago, I had an opportunity to go through it. I was amazed at the work put into it. It was methodically laid out to take you from the very beginning of how the earth was at the earliest stages of its formation right on through every supposed “stage” of evolutionary advancement up to our present time. It’s the clearest and most subtle form of brain-washing that I have ever encountered, and it was loaded with parents with children. Overhearing many of the discussions the parents were having with their children reaffirmed for me the influence that the devil, the father of lies, has on society.

It’s also quite astonishing how so many scientists and museum curators can be so tragically wrong? I know! Every evolutionist will say that evolution is based on fact and not on religious adherence to old myths and superstitions, but the truth is that the only one who was at creation and at every “stage” of life is God. He is the only one who “knows” the truth, and the only record of His truth is the Bible—inadequate as it may seem to millions and billions of people.

The propaganda for evolution in this exhibit included a “new” understanding on how the word “theory” is used. They had a convoluted statement printed on a large board explaining that the word “theory” when used with evolution doesn’t mean its normal understanding but in actuality conveys fact. That’s like saying the word “is” means “symbolize” when it concerns the Lord’s Supper as the Reformed Churches maintain. The truth is, that “is” means “is” in all its different usages and the same goes with “theory”.

So how old is the world. According to the exhibit in Chicago, the world was beginning to form in its gaseous state some 450 billion years old. But how does that add up to actual fact? We can get an idea from evolutionary doctrine depicting the moon as some 4.5 billion years old. Science has confirmed the existence of “space dust” in the universe. Because there is no erosion or wind on the moon’s sterile surface, the steady accumulation of space dust over this imaginable space of time was estimated to be 50 to 180 feet deep. Evolutionists believed that the loosely packed cosmic dust on the moon’s surface would be a threat to our manned Lunar Lander in the mid-1960’s. What if it sunk into this loose layer of believed-in-billions of years and was not able to blast off for the return trip to earth? As the time for the first manned landing approached, much concern and controversy over the moon-dust problem was voiced. In fact, the landing site was picked precisely because it was thought to have the least amount of moon dust to contend with.

In a television interview, Bob Hope asked Neil Armstrong what his greatest fear was concerning his historic first step on the moon’s surface. Without hesitation, Armstrong responded that his greatest fear was the moon dust layer the astronauts were told to expect. Many precautions had been taken. Additional expensive impact probes had been sent. Huge duck feet landing pads were added to the extra long legs on the Lunar Lander so it wouldn’t sink anymore than it had to into the imagined dust layer.

When the historic first step took place, as the NASA photos showed, there was no 180 feet of dust! There was no 50 feet of dust! There was no 6 feet of dust! The truth was that there was barely one inch of accumulated dust! Using the evolutionist’s own rate of accumulation, there was not a billion or a million year’s worth of dust, but actually only a few thousand year’s worth of dust on the moon’s surface—an amount that stayed roughly the same no matter where they ventured. If they could be so wrong about the moon’s age, what makes them so right about the earth’s age? Not much!

Another theory purported as fact in the Field Museum’s exhibit is the now generally recognized idea that our modern day birds evolved from dinosaurs. They list numerous details, such as the same kind of hip sockets, leg bone structures, and finding small dinosaurs that seem to have had feathers. But just because different animals have some of the same characteristics as others don’t mean they all have the same ancestry. The Platypus has a bill like a duck and a tail like a beaver, but it is not descended from either one. It is its own species and when it reproduces, it only reproduces after its own kind as God said it would in Genesis 1:24.

The Field Museum also makes the statement that the first winged flying creature was a dinosaur. That is in direct contradiction to what God has revealed in Genesis one. God made the birds on the same day that He made the sea creatures. It was the next day, the fifth day, of creation that God made animals—including dinosaurs, and in all cases, God said that they would reproduce after their own kind. No animal could come from a bird or anything else of one kind from another. That doesn’t mean there are not variations in different kinds, but it does mean that no cat will ever produce a frog, or vice-versa—a thing that evolutionists say happened regularly and normally over billions and billions of years of time.

So what do leading scientists and evolutionists themselves say about the “theory” of evolution? Colin Patterson, senior paleontologist for the British Museum of Natural History, admitted he worked in the field for over 20 years, and yet, there was not one thing he knew to be true. British astronomer Fred Hoyle said believing the first cell originated by chance is like believing a tornado could sweep through a junkyard filled with airplane parts and form a Boeing 747. Another astronomer and onetime atheist, Paul Davies, conceded, “The laws [of physics] . . . seem themselves to be the product of exceedingly ingenious design.” Later he said the “impression of design is overwhelming.” Michael Denton, a molecular scientist and author, called evolution “a highly speculative hypothesis entirely without direct factual support.”

The late scientists Francis Crick and Carl Sagan at one time calculated the difficulty of evolving a human by chance alone as one in 10^{2,000,000,000}. That number is absolutely no chance at all. If you remember, that fact did not stop Sagan as he also bought into the theory of evolution as the origin of the universe. But perhaps, the most striking admission comes from a Nobel Prize winner, Dr. George Wald, a professor emeritus of biology at Harvard. His answer fits right in with what St. Peter prophesied in the Scripture quote above. He said spontaneous generation was disproved long ago, leaving only creation as an alternative, “but I can’t accept that philosophy because I do not want to believe in God. Therefore I choose to believe in that which is scientifically impossible, spontaneous generation leading to evolution.”

It’s sad to see so many supposedly intelligent people “stupid on purpose”! The only alternative to evolution is creation. And that is something the devil will not tolerate. With no creation, there is no consequence for sin. With no creation, there is no need for a Savior. Buying into evolutionary thought leads away from heaven and to hell. Evolution says that our world should be getting better and better. But your own senses tell us that the base instincts of mankind in all its perversions seem to be getting worse and worse. The truth is that if our society keeps telling children that they are descended from animals, then why should we be surprised if they act like animals—even into adulthood?

The evolutionary belief system is a religion in every sense of the word, for it is not based on true knowable fact but on faith just as creation is. This pseudo-religion alters the very reason that our Lord came to this earth to redeem us. It proclaims a different place for death than as God’s curse on Adam’s sin. It thereby also negates the need for the Lord of Life who came to defeat sin and its wages. The truth is, that God created the world; it didn’t happen by chance! The truth is that every animal multiplies after its kind—one species doesn’t change into another. The beautiful truth is that He, through whom we were created (John 1, Colossians 1), came to recreate us through His death and resurrection! He gives us no false views of who we are and where we came from. He tells us by nature we are dead in sin and He went to the cross to forgive us. He then rose from the dead to give us a future and a hope!
